MOREOB (Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently)

MOREOB Program

MOREOB (Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently) is a comprehensive, patient safety, professional development, and performance improvement program for hospital obstetric units. Alberta Health Services has a contract with Salus Global Corporation for the program tools and materials to be provided in Alberta to March 31, 2016.

MOREOB uses a wide variety of materials and tools such as on-line clinical content, workshops, skills drills, emergency drills and audits to positively impact culture, communication, collaboration, teamwork, reflective learning and systems improvement.

Alberta hospitals began the MOREOB Program in 2004/2005. Ongoing participation is called MOREOB Plus (self directed) where hospitals independently implement the program without ongoing MOREOB training from Salus Global Corporation. In the current contract, one support day is provided by Salus Global Corporation for each zone per year.

Additional information about the MOREOB Program can be found at

Participant Access

Alberta Health Professionals access the MOREOB Program through their local hospital. Alberta Health Professionals should contact the MOREOB Core Team members at their site for more information about participant access including participation in obstetrical unit patient safety initiatives and access to the MOREOB Program on-line tools and materials. Each participating hospital has a MOREOB Core Team. A Core Team is a small group of individuals who are committed to facilitate implementation of the MOREOB Program at their site.

MOREOB Zone Participation

All 5 Alberta Zones participate in the MOREOB Program. 55 sites that provide an intrapartum obstetrical service hold seats in the Program. Over 2700 Alberta Health Professionals participate in the Program. MOREOB Program participation is designed for those who work with childbearing families in labour and birth. Registered Nurses, Family Practice Physicians, Registered Midwives, and Obstetricians are the largest groups that participate in the MOREOB Program in Alberta.
